Text Box: CARPET CARE

There are very few things in life that does not need care and maintenance. Whether it is our relations, our cars, the roof, etc it all require a certain amount of care and maintenance. We do these in order to preserve the useful lifetime and to ensure longevity. When it comes to carpets, it is no different.

General care.

1. Try to protect your carpets from direct sunlight. The dyes in carpets have superior colorfastness. Even so, particularly in north facing rooms, it is best to use sun-filters or to draw the curtains, when there is direct sunlight falling on the carpets.

2. In heavy-traffic areas it is wise to lay down scatter rugs, particularly when it is raining.

3.Protect your carpet from any sharp objects, which could cut or pull, loops and pile causing damage. Note the pulling action of high heel shoes can also damage the pile. Use protective cups under the legs of heavy furniture.

4.Be careful to avoid any form of over wetting. Spillage when watering pot plants is one of the most common factors resulting on rot damage. Never stand pot plants directly on the carpets. Use a drip tray. Rearrange pot plants regularly and examine the carpet each time.

5. Plastic carpet runners should be used with caution. They can cause damage due to the abrasive action on the pile and sometimes lead to “sweating” and subsequent rot.

6. Quality walk-off mats are recommended at all entrances. They trap dirt and prevent it from being walked into fitted carpets. To remain effective these mats must be cleaned regularly and replaced when necessary

Vacuum cleaning

To keep your carpets looking good, Use a good quality vacuum cleaner with adequate suction power (minimum of 1000 watts). Keep it in good repair and empty bags frequently. We recommend that you use a vacuum cleaner with a rotation brush, but caution should be exercised with certain loop pile wool carpets as the brush can cause piling or fussing.

Your vacuum cleaner is a friend to you and your carpet. Regular vacuuming is necessary to prevent soil from becoming embedded in the pile, which causes accelerated wear.

Vacuum heavy traffic areas, like passages and entrance areas daily. Other areas should be vacuumed at least once a week.
